Office Manager & Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene

If you know Dr. Shook, then you probably know Laurie. Besides being his wife and right-hand (wo)man, Laurie is the office manager, accounts payable, public relations manager, marketing representative, and Dr. Shook’s high school sweetheart. An original member of the team, Laurie received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Continuing education is extremely important to Laurie as evidenced by her additional training in the Periodontal Plus Program through Mercer Mastery, and certifications in OSHA and HIPAA practices through Total Medical Compliance. She also has business marketing training from ACT Dental. Laurie loves the personal relationships created with each patient and helps them celebrate achieving their oral health goals. Along with her husband and their three children, Brady, Emma, and Ava, Laurie sets a positive example in her community by volunteering for a variety of organizations. Coming from a big family Laurie understands the importance of familial relationships, which is just one part of the office she loves so much.


Registered Dental Hygienist

Ready for a clean, sparkling bright smile? Amanda’s prepared to deliver. A 2002 graduate of Asheville-Buncombe Technical College, Amanda’s been with us since finishing school. A valued member of our family, she is not only one of our hygienists but is also our HIPAA coordinator and Radiation Protection Officer. She also received training in the Periodontal Plus Program through Mercer Mastery, with additional courses from ACT Dental. Amanda is compassionate and thorough with every patient, and people love her enthusiastic attitude. Outside of the office, you can find her spending time with her family and friends, whether hiking, riding in her Jeep, or volunteering with toddlers at church. In addition to being a dental hygienist, Amanda is also a loving wife and a mom to two children.


Registered Dental Hygienist

In 2005, Susan joined the team, and has been an integral part of our office ever since. As a registered dental hygienist, Susan helps patients achieve their ultimate smile with professional cleanings and education to develop healthy habits. Along with her education from Asheville-Buncombe Technical College, Susan also received training in the Periodontal Plus Program through Mercer Mastery, with additional courses from ACT Dental. A passion for perio-care, Susan has always known she wanted to work in a medical field where she’d be helping others. She loves the family friendly atmosphere of the office, and the commitment to each patient. The office is her home away from home, and she loves every aspect of her job. She’s been a Sunday School teacher for ten years, and is very active in her church community.


Registered Dental Hygienist

Want to know the best way to brush your teeth? What about the best place to hit the slopes? Robin knows the answer to both. Another alum of Asheville-Buncombe Technical College, Robin joined our team in 2012. Giving credit to her own experience with an excellent dental hygienist, Robin knew dentistry was the right industry for her. She enjoys the company of her coworkers and appreciates the relaxed yet professional environment in which she gets to work. She loves forming relationships with her patients and learning as much as possible about them. She volunteers her time to school and faith-based activities. She shares a mutual love of Nicholas Sparks novels with Deanna and focuses her time outside of the office (and a good love story) on her family. She loves skiing and traveling.


Certified Dental Assistant

Deanna pretty much sealed her fate in 2003 when she became a member of our team. Her reply to what she would do if she didn’t work here proves she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else: “Dr. Shook has spoiled us. I don’t know if I could work for another dentist.” Her primary duties include assisting the doctor, dental equipment maintenance, dental supply coordinator and prepping the treatment rooms for patients. Deanna is passionate about continuing education and in addition to her training at A-B Tech she’s also completed courses in CEREC, Invisalign, Six Month Smiles, Implants, and OSHA and HIPAA practices. When she’s not swapping the latest Nicholas Sparks novel with Robin, she’s either volunteering at church or for the quarterback club or riding motorcycles on intercounty explorations.


Front Desk Coordinator

Family takes many forms as Maria and her daughter, two step-daughters, two fur babies, newborn grandchild, and devoted husband will tell you. Maria ensures that every patient who comes through the door is welcomed, and that the whole front desk runs smoothly. She is dental radiology certified, and has received special training in business marketing through ACT Dental, as well as the Periodontal Plus Program of Mercer Mastery. She’s also fully trained in HIPPA and OSHA compliance. Maria loves that she can extend her family to include every patient she helps. She’s the go-to source for dental insurance plans and accounts receivable, as well as the office treatment care coordinator. Faith is an important part of her life outside the office, and she believes it guides her every day.


Front Desk Coordinator & Certified Dental Assistant

The newest addition to our team, Moriah loves meeting new people and helping them feel welcome. Moriah also graduated from A-B Tech and continued her education with training in Invisalign, OSHA and HIPPA compliance, and Dental Implants. She has 10+ years of orthodontic experience. She believes smiles make a first impression, and loves to make a positive impact through dentistry. She’s always happy to attend to a patient’s needs, and fills in wherever needed, either as assistant or front desk coordinator. In her spare time, Moriah loves running and training in the gym, where she’s even an instructor. She loves spending time with her family including her husband and stepchildren.

Office Administrator

Jessie is the voice that you’ll often hear when you call our office. A graduate of Hayesville High School, she earned her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Kaplan University. She loves making people… and animals… smile! In fact, she spent some time as a Veterinary Technician where she worked specifically on the teeth of cats and dogs. Jessie is here to help you schedule your appointments, deal with any referrals needed, and to help you have the most personalized care possible in our office. If she looks familiar to you, she volunteers filming the football games at Hayesville High. She also has her own photography business, 7ven-Feather Photography, where she takes photos of families, newborns, and of course weddings. She also takes event photos for Rock Bottom Recovery and Support. When she’s not volunteering, she’s spending time with her husband Josh and their son Jaelyn.
